Inventor of coaster guest pager talks about newest innovative products
Dallas, TX – Almost every time you walk into a restaurant these days, you see the flashing coaster-style pagers that let guests now when their table is ready. What you may not know is that Long Range Systems, the company that invented those pagers in 1995, now offers over 35 products designed to help restaurants streamline guest management, improve service and increase sales. Plus, they’re releasing more innovative products all the time. We spoke with Ken Lovegreen, president of LRS, to find out what they’re introducing at the 2007 National Restaurant Association Show.
Tell us about Long Range Systems.
Ken Lovegreen: We started LRS almost 15 years ago after my business partner, Russ Blink, and I sat waiting in a restaurant one night. We realized there had to be a better way to help restaurants manage waiting guests. Being engineers, it didn’t take us long to create our Coaster Call™ pager. Since then, we’ve added a full line of products. Not just for restaurants, but other industries, as well.
Who are your target end-users?
KL: No matter what type of restaurant you operate, we have something you need. Full-service casual and family restaurants have always been our biggest customers, but now we offer systems designed specifically for the fast casual market, too.
What distinguishes your products from the competition?
KL: We have the highest quality, most durable products available. We also have the best selection. Not only do we offer more types of pagers than anyone else, including cell phone paging, we also have a table management system and curbside to-go system, an electronic guest survey system and an automatic gift card dispenser. Plus, we back them up with friendly 24/7 customer service and outstanding warranties.
What products are you introducing at the show?
KL: We’re introducing seven products that we’re very excited about. First, we’ve redesigned our three wireless server-paging systems so that they’re even easier to use. Plus, they have a new modern design that fits any kitchen decor. Second, for the dining area we have the Table Genie™ waiter call system. When a guest needs service, they simply press a button on this stylish, tabletop unit and the server appears like magic. Third, we’re presenting our redesigned Key Call™ table locator system for fast casual restaurants. Key Call lets the kitchen know exactly where a guest sits so they can deliver food to them faster. Fourth, we’ve added a rechargeable server pager, and an alphanumeric Coaster pager that lets guests know how long they have to wait. Finally, we’re showing our unique Beach Butler™, a waterproof unit similar to Table Genie, but designed for hotels and resorts with pool and beachside foodservice. It’s already grabbing attention internationally and we expect it to do the same here.
